NICOLAS GAITAN is finally set complete a move to Manchester United, according to reports in Portugal.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola claim the Argentina international has even gone so far as to bid goodbye to his Benfica team-mates.
And super-agent Jorge Mendes is believed to be on
his way to Manchester to finalise the deal.
Mendes is agent to numerous stars including Cristiano Ronaldo, who has also been linked with a return to Old Trafford this summer.
However, a reunion seems unlikley and Gaitan could be a more realistic option after being linked with United in every transfer window for the last two years.
Scouts were sent to watch the 27-year-old during the days of David Moyes and sir Alex Ferguson was also believed to have expressed an interest in the midfielder.
And Louis van Gaal might have actually sealed the deal, with £28million understood to be what he is willing to pay.
The Dutchman has already splashed the cash on Morgan Scheniderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian and Memphis Depay this summer.
Barcelona's Pedro is almost certain to be one of those and Gaitan could reduce his search to just one more new signing.
With the transfer window set to shut on September 1, numerous other players are being linked with Old Trafford, including Mario Gotze and Julian Draxler.
