First Avengers: Age of Ultron poster leaves no Avenger behind

Marvel has released the first theatrical poster for their highly anticipated summer blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron.

As was the case with its predecessor The Avengers, it's a bit of a mess. Granted, to include every character in the poster is a task that requires Hulk-like strength, but the sheer level of activity here warrants a disclaimer.

Captain America, it would appear, is hot property now, earning a place alongside an unmasked Iron Man (because Robert Downey Jr's face needs to shine). The poster shows all The Avengers, echoing that iconic shot in New York from the previous film, battling a hoard of robots.

On a closer look, however, one spots a handful of cool details: Ultron (the main villain) seems to be absent. Instead, his creation, the equally villainous Vision (played by Paul Bettany) floats above The Incredible Hulk's angry head. Glancing down, we notice Anthony Mackie (Falcon) and Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter) will return, along with Idris Elba and Stellan Skarsgard. Danny Elfman has been credited with additional music in a pleasant surprise.

The Avengers grossed $1.5 billion back in 2012 and was the capper to one of the most ambitious projects ever put together in cinema. Marvel Studios, with a new spring in their stride announced the even more ambitious Phase II and III to their Cinematic Universe.

Last summer, Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier cemented the fact that the Marvel brand was enough to get people into theatres, regardless the film, when they both out-grossed veteran franchises like Spider-Man, X-Men, The Hobbit and Transformers at the US box-office.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is written and directed by Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L Jackson, Paul Bettany, James Spader and newcomers Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen.

It will be released in India on 24 April, a week before the US.
