Reports claim that Premier League Champions Manchester City are looking to make a swoop for Real Madrid star Luka Modric.
Manchester City have made a meek attempt of their title defence and look all but certain to relinquish their crown to Chelsea this season.
If indeed City lose out in
the title race, they will be finishing the season empty handed after performing woefully in the cup competitions as well and such a poor season has put manager Manuel Pellegrini’s position at the club in doubt.
While it remains to be seen if Pellegrini will remain in charge of City beyond the end of the current campaign, one can be sure that the Citizens will be undergoing a massive overhaul in their squad and quite a few number of stars are expected to arrive at the Etihad Stadium next season.
City have been linked with a host of names in the past few weeks such as Kevin de Bruyne, Ross Barkley, Koke and Layvin Kurzawa and now according to the Daily Star, the Premier League giants are also eyeing up a move for Real Madrid star Luka Modric.
The links are a bit strange as Modric has managed to establish himself as an integral part of the Madrid side since his arrival to the Santiago Bernabeu a few seasons ago.
However, it is believed that Madrid will be looking to recruit Juventus star Paul Pogba this summer as part of their Galatico model and in order to facilitate the Frenchman’s arrival, many believe that Modric will have to make way.
Therefore, City are believed to be looking to swoop in for Modric if he becomes available and a price of around £35million has been quoted for the midfielder. At 29, Modric is currently at the peak of his powers and the Croatian international could well prove to be an inspired signing for the Citizens.
