Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo could be fined or even suspended after using his trademark ‘calm down’ celebration during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
This is according to LFP president Javier Tebas, who feels Ronaldo’s celebration increased the risk of provoking the Barcelona supporters.
“We have to be careful with
provocative gestures by a player when he scores a goal or with any other provocation or conduct that could incite violence among spectators,” Tebas was quoted as saying by the Guardian. “It must be sanctioned, from a fine up to a suspension. We will look into it.”
DEPORTIVO FAN DEATH INCIDENT IN NOVEMBER
Sunday was not the first time Ronaldo had used his ‘calm down’ celebration during a Clasico, but Spanish authorities are reportedly looking to clamp down on players or supporters who use actions that could be deemed as provocative following a tragic incident involving a Deportivo La Coruna fan in November.
The supporter in question lost his life following violent clashes outside the Vicente Calderon, home of La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.
