ICC President Mustafa Kamal and N Srinivasan at loggerheads

  • Mustafa Kamal was reportedly told by ICC that he would not be allowed to present the World Cup trophy
  • Kamal had earlier made disparaging comments about 'umpires bias' in the World Cup quarter-final between Bangladesh and India
  • N Srinivasan expressed his displeasure at the comments and Kamal later vowed to expose the ICC

The ICC President Mustafa Kamal and ICC Chairman N Srinivasan have been at loggerheads after the final of the World Cup 2015. The duo had a stand-off at
the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday after Kamal was prevented from handing over the trophy to the winning captain. Srinivasan had his way and went on to present the trophy to Michael Clarke and a peeved Kamal is reportedly planning to expose everything that is happening in the ICC.
"I was supposed to give the trophy. It is my constitutional right. But very unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to do so. My rights were dishonoured. After I go back home, I will let the whole world know what's happening in ICC. I will let the whole world know about those guys who are doing these mischievous things," Kamal told Bangladeshi channels according to PTI.
"I don't know why I was not allowed to present the trophy," he said.
Kamal had earlier voiced his displeasure at umpiring verdicts that went against Bangladesh in their quarter-final loss against India. His comments had caused a lot of embarrassment for the ICC. CEO Dave Richardson called Kamal's comments 'unfortunate' and expressed support for the umpires whose integrity had come under question.
"I commented on poor umpiring and even the ICC issued a press release. I was the president, I am the president and I will remain the president. But I have been robbed of my constitutional rights to speak the truth, to speak for cricket and to stand for cricket," said Kamal and added, "I have spoken for ICC and I have not spoken against any country. But as a cricket lover I spoke. That is why I could not give away the trophy."
The ICC rules do state clearly that the President is responsible for presenting trophies at global competitions and cricket events conducted by the ICC. However in light of the recent comments made by Kamal, the ICC reportedly had a meeting at Melbourne and decided that Kamal would not be allowed to hand over the trophy. Srinivasan had expressed his unhappiness to the other members about Kamal's comments in the same meeting. An embarrassed Kamal then walked out of the final even before the match finished and has hence vowed to expose the guys behind his ouster.
