Luis Suarez has declared his joy of returning to Anfield, and playing with one man in particular.
Suarez played alongside players past and present in a charity game between sides chosen by Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher and after the game he revealed how he had always wished to partner Fernando Torres up-front.
Talking to Liverpoolfc.com Suarez said: “It was great for me. “Four years ago when I arrived here for Liverpool, I crossed my fingers to
play with Fernando and he left three days after I signed. Today was a great day for all the players, but for me and Fernando it was a great chance to play together.”
Other names to feature in the match included John Terry, Thierry Henry and Gael Clichy as well as a host of former Liverpool players such as Ryan Babel and Dirk Kuyt.
The Uruguayan, who scored 82 goals in 133 appearances for Liverpool before leaving to Barcelona in the summer, also admitted he had missed playing in front of the Anfield faithful. “It’s unbelievable for me. Everyone who’s played for Liverpool knows how important the supporters are. Now they know they are in my heart “.
The Match ended 2-2 with Gerrard scoring twice for his team, cancelling out earlier goals from Mario Balotelli and Didier Drogba.
