Five England U21 stars who could make it to Euro 2016

Danny Ings

Ings may lose his place in the side if Harry Kane opts to go to the European under-21 Championship this summer. However, his form for Burnley shows that he is ready to display his undoubted potential at the top level. Ings has scored nine times in the Premier League this season and combines blistering pace with fantastic movement off the ball. It will be tough for him to break into the senior squad, but will be waiting if

any injuries occur.

James Ward-Prowse

We have seen the likes of Fraser Forster and Nathanial Clyne become England squad regulars this season and Ward-Prowse could be the next Southampton star to make the grade. He has a superb set piece delivery and an excellent passing range. With England seemingly short of central midfield back-ups, a solid 2015-16 season means Ward-Prowse would have a great chance of being selected.

Carl Jenkinson

England have a plethora of right-back options including Kyle Walker, Clyne and Glen Johnson but there is no reason why Jenkinson can’t become an England regular. His man of the match showing on Monday was not an exception; it has been the norm this season at West Ham United. However, Arsenal-owned Jenkinson must continue to play regular football next year if he is to have a chance of usurping the current first choices.

Will Hughes

Hughes is an outsider for the senior squad due to the fact he plies his trade at Derby County in the Championship. He must move to a Premier League club to play regularly before he has any chance - if the Rams fail to secure promotion - but he undoubtedly has the talent. Hughes is not a flashy midfielder but he is extremely neat and can find the killer pass when he wants to.

John Stones

The Everton central defender is very good with the ball at his feet, something which Roy Hodgson is encouraging his defenders to do more and more. Stones has been in several previous squads but has dropped down to this level so that he gains some experience of a major tournament. Although he does still seem quite lightweight, with the lack of central defensive options at England’s disposal, Stones has a very good chance of making it to the Euros.
