Harrison Ford has been confirmed to reprise his role as Rick Deckard in Blade Runner sequel.
Denis Villeneuve is in talks to helm the Warner Bros project, which the original 1982 sci-fi film's director Ridley Scott will executive produce for Alcon Entertainment, Deadline.com reported.
The story takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 film, and Hampton Fancher, who co-wrote the original with David Peoples, along with Michael Green have written the original screenplay based on an idea by Fancher and Scott. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in summer 2016.
Alcon's Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson said that they were honoured to
have Harrison on this journey with Villeneuve, who is a singular talent, whom they worked wit personally on Prisoners, and that they couldn't be more thrilled with such a amazing, creative team.
Bud Yorkin will serve as a producer along with Kosove and Johnson, while Cynthia Sikes Yorkin co-produces. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEOs of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.
