Sporting Lisbon and the Court of Arbitration for Sport have confirmed that the Marcos Rojo case will be held in Switzerland from June 16th to June 19th of this year with the conclusion of the long running saga set for the latter date. The fees from the transfer haven't been fully decided upon and therefore the conclusion for Sporting hasn't been reached yet but the Portuguese club will face their moment of truth in June according to A Bola newspaper.
Doyen had owned 75% of Rojo before he moved to
Manchester United, because they helped Sporting buy the player by largely funding the deal. Doyen are a sport investment group and have done similar with many players, therefore they take much of the risk rather than the club but they also expect their share of the financial reward upon a sale. Sporting felt that Doyen had acted incorrectly during the transfer to Manchester United and so refused to pay them what Doyen said they were owed, ripping up the contract.
The investment group are obviously confident of victory and not only do they want 75% of the €20m transfer fee Manchester United paid, but they've also added the value of Nani's loan to that, feeling it was clearly part payment for Rojo. If Doyen win then Sporting will be put in a very difficult situation and it will cast doubt on the future of their president Bruno de Carvalho. The club may have to push at least one sale through quickly, Manchester United could be waiting.
Whilst the Rojo transfer cannot be cancelled and no sanctions are expected against Manchester United, it's quite possible that the player and club could be called upon to give evidence to help CAS reach a conclusion on the transfer. Both Doyen and Sporting want this concluded but neither will be keen on upsetting Manchester United too much in case it harms any possible future business.
